POONS

Quiz time.

In the context of the UK National Health Service what does the acronym POONS mean?

And would you like to be known by this acronym?

Answers please on the back of a self-addressed postcard, well in the comments. I will buy the first correct answer apint, if we ever meet!

Presumably this guy doesn't mind going by the name POONS. But it also looks like it has taken a toll on him.

Let's see. POONS: Pediatric Oncology...I'm stumped.

Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist! I know because that is the job title of the Clic Sargent nurse that liases between my son's specialist hospital and our local hospital. My son is nearly 5 & like Kezia is receiving regimen C treatment after his ALL diagnosis in Oct '06. Although we have an extra year of maintenance because he is a boy. Glad Kezia's treatment is going well, my sons is so far, fingers crossed!

Anonymous - I owe you a pint or whatever your favourite tipple is! If, of course, you reveal you identity!

I thought a POONS was a figment of NICE's imagination for, as far as I am aware, we don't have one. But that may be because all Kezia's treatment is at the "principal treatment centre" (it is near enough) rather than a "secondary care [i.e. local] facility.

Does our Macmillan Nurse count as a POONS ? She has done something for us a total of twice!

Your impressions of your POONS would indeed be valuable.

Given the polemic about Nurse Specialists (see NHS Blog Doctor) watch this space for a post.

Happy to hear your son is doing well.

Rob was halfway right with the "Paediatric Oncology" bit, does that mean he wins a half a prize? :-)

Ok - I'll buy him a 1/2 pint!

It's a deal. Thanks for sticking up for me, Lea. My preferences are for:

P-ilsner (sometimes).
O-atmeal stout.
O-rganic India Pale Ale.
N-utbrown Ale.
S-tout.

Name the pub; I'm there.
