Kezia's first School Crisis

Nanda was phoned on her mobile this morning whilst she was in the middle of shopping to come and get Kezia from school.

I don’t know all the ins-and-outs of it but it seems she was well out-of-sorts. From what I can ascertain, she wasn’t very hungry at breakfast, and the first session at school involved dancing and she ended up very hungry ... and fractious. When she got home there was no fever but she ate an entire pizza!

As she only finished her Dexamethasone on Sunday, it is probably a side-effect of this.

Update: this her teacher's report "We phoned Nanda because Kezia did not seem her usual self. She wouldn't join in the dancing for the Christmas play which she usually loves! Also she was sweating quite a lot and fell asleep on my chair in amongst all the noise in the nursery! We felt it was best to call Nanda."

Bianca is on Dexamethasone until Sunday and she is eating like crazy and specifically wanting things that we do not have at home... Bianca usually takes a few days to get the steroid out of her system each time we reach the last day of the Dexamethasone, so I can relate a bit about what you are going through right now.

Good luck! You are in my thoughts!

Thanks for the sympathy Lea! She had her second flu jab today and seemed quite proud of it!

Nanda has manged to get her not to cry with finger pricks and injections - she tells me it was by bribery!

Hi there, I also got called from school this week, Leonie really wanted to come home but she wanted to stay for the break too! It didn't help that I just has my head in the sink with the hairdresser. The effects of the dex seem to be diferent month to month, maybe its their body mass and the dosage. I'm counting backwards and calculate she has 48more weeks so only 12 more sesions of dex.

Hi Rosie

Blimey - you've counted! Kezia must be about the same. Twelve too many!

Sorry, I am here just occasionally.
I only worry that kids need a good nutrition, especially kids with cancer. eating whole pizza - it's like killing. I actually tried dieting approach for my health as well and being a scientist I would agree with most of what is said in the book Eat To Live (Joe Fuhrman).
It also says how good food really fights cancer as well as many other diseases.
I'm not trying to convince you, I just liked that there are a lot of scientific data as a background. And I swear that I'm not related to the author. I just think that this book will say it all better then I :)
P.S. I'm not eating junk food myself but I do love some "bad" food. I did follow the advice of the book and am feeling great.

I totally agree with you about healthy eating. But Dexamethasone does do weird things to taste, appetite and mood. If she wants pizza, then the dex will induce a temper tantrum if she doesn't get it. Sometimes you just have to flow with it.
